Common Floor Vents
The most common woods used in wood floor vents include red oak, white oak, ash, maple, birch, hickory, southern yellow pine, white pine, or birch. For an extra cost you can also find wood floor vents in exotic woods such as walnut, cherry, genuine mahogany, red birch, bamboo, and teak. There are ways to get wood floor vents custom made, if you have a particular style you are looking for or if you have an irregular vent. When you want to obtain floor registers, regardless of whether they are metal if they are wood, it is very important to measure the size of the duct opening more than once. You want to make sure that the floor vents not only fit the vent, but also that they do not present a danger to people in the house, especially children and pets. The measurements refer to the duct opening size. For example, if you get a 4 by 10 vent that means that the duct opening is 4 by 10 approximately. Most wood floor vents and metal floor vents are designed to go into a floor location, in which case it will be held in place via gravity. If you are planning to mount one in a wall or ceiling you will need to drill through the face of the unit and attached it with screws.
