Glass Door Knobs Make A Comeback
Glass door knobs used to be standard in new homes in the earlier parts of the 20th century, but eventually they fell out of fashion and other materials became more common. Glass door knobs have made a comeback, though, and there are many exciting new varieties to choose from. Glass isn't just being used for door hardware, either. There is a great variety of glass cabinet hardware and other home accessories that are making more modern looks out of this classic material. Door hardware comes in numerous glass varieties, such as octagonal, rosette and fluted shapes, and clear, amber and amethyst colors. Many of the glass door knobs on the market today mirror the styles that were popular 80 years ago, which came into vogue after the United States entered World War I. Glass cabinet hardware and door knobs were more common at this time because metal was being saved for the war effort in items such as airplanes and ammunition.
Glass door knobs are used both indoors and outdoors, and they provide a touch of elegance that metal simply cannot. Door hardware is much more than a functional piece of equipment that is used to gain entrance into a home, room or cabinet - it is an opportunity to express one's personal sense of style. Many of the glass cabinet hardware and door knobs are flat so you can peer inside to see star, bullet, and pin-prick designs molded into the base. There are also different shapes from ovals and octagons to rosettes and crystal globes with tiny bubbles inside, as well as a whole rainbow of different colors. Glass door knobs complement many types of home décor, from sleek and modern to shabby chic to Victorian. And since door hardware comes in clear glass as well as a huge variety of colors, it's possible to coordinate with practically any color scheme in the home. It's a good thing that they made a comeback.
