Decorative switchplates are a great way to spruce up an older home without detracting from its antique charm. Decorative switchplates make a much bigger impact than you might think, too. While you don't notice the switchplates too much when they are a perfect fit for the home, you definitely notice when they are not such a good fit. They stick out like a sore thumb and can take away from the antique charm of that old house that you worked so hard to purchase.
