New Switchplates For An Old Home
Decorative switchplates are a great way to spruce up an older home without detracting from its antique charm. If you recently purchased a very old house that needs some refurbishing you will undoubtedly need some new switchplates, but if the new ones look too modern they will not form a cohesive look. An old Victorian craftsman, for example, would not be well suited for guitar switchplates or some other contemporary themed switchplate. If there are old switchplates in your home that still look good and are in good working order, they should simply be cleaned and put back on the wall, of course. It's not uncommon in old houses that have not been taken care of so well over the years, however, that some hardware items have disappeared.
A missing switchplate is not the end of the world if you aspire to creating the perfect antique look - there are plenty of products available that very closely replicate the older styles. Many of these decorative switchplates can even be found online, which makes it exceedingly easy to shop for and find the perfect match. Installing new decorative switchplates is just one step in the lengthy process of restoring an old house. Installing each switchplate by hand may seem like a lot of hassle, but the eventual results of all that hard work will be completely worthwhile, as you will have a home to treasure for years to come. Decorative switchplates make a much bigger impact than you might think, too. While you don't notice the switchplates too much when they are a perfect fit for the home, you definitely notice when they are not such a good fit. They stick out like a sore thumb and can take away from the antique charm of that old house that you worked so hard to purchase.
